Our Vision Team organizes ways to volunteer in the community through…
COTS: Committee on the Shelterless
Providing resources to people recently homeless, now in low-income housing. http://www.cots-homeless.org/
Angels on Call
Providing short-term support to people in our congregation or community. When someone needs a meal or a ride, we contact Angels on Call, and a volunteer helps out.
Stephen Ministries
Providing a listening ear. http://www.stephenministries.org/ We participate in a joint ministry with First United Methodist Church, Santa Rosa, called Stephen Ministries. When someone in the community faces a difficult time, perhaps due to divorce, illness, bereavement, or other change in life circumstance, it may help to talk with a trained listener. Stephen Ministers are caring lay people, trained and supervised, who meet weekly to listen to your concerns and pray with you.
UMCOR: United Methodist Committee on Relief
Our church supports relief work after earthquakes, floods, and fires. Find out how you can help: http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/Call the church office at 707 584-9780 to learn more or to get involved in any of these programs.
A good way to connect with people at St. John's is by attending the 9:00 am Sunday class for adults. This class watches videos with progressive theologians speaking on biblical and theological topics that relate to today. Anyone is welcome to drop in. We also offer Disciple Bible Study, for in-depth study and discussion. If that's not for you, perhaps the world religions class will suit your interests on Tuesday evenings.
Spirituality Groups (S-Groups) meet for the purpose of personal sharing and faith development. We have groups that gather at various times and places throughout the week. Typically, an S-Group reads a book together and discusses topics that relate to faith and the challenges of life. The groups are open to new members, and we frequently start groups as needed. Whether you come as a young adult, a married couple, or a working single, there should be a group for you.
United Methodist Women
Another great way to make friends is by attending the UMW meetings on the second Wednesday of every month at 7 pm (or at 6:00 pm for quarterly potluck suppers). The UMW organizes a plant sale and a Christmas bazaar to raise funds for world missions.
United Methodist Men
Our men meet once a month for breakfast at 8:30 am on the 4th Saturday, typically at Star Restaurant, 8501 Gravenstein Highway in Cotati. We always hope for new visitors!
Seasonal Programs
We feature special programs throughout the year, such as Lenten studies, ecumenical services, Vacation Bible School with Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, and our own unique Christmas pageant.
A good way to find your niche is to join the St. John's Choir that practices on Sunday at 9:00 am and sings at the 10:30 service about 3 times a month. Everyone who loves to sing is welcome in the choir. If you can read music, you might want to try our hand bell choir too, that meets the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month after worship and plays about once a month in church.
